Intricate mix between cornrows and a curly afro

A half-and-half hairstyle works for short African-American hair with fat locks. Across the crown of the head, starting all the way from the hairline, hair is intricately woven into small, horizontal cornrows, broken up by a thin diagonal part. At the outer edges of the rows, starting at the temples and somewhere down the middle of the occipital area, the rows suddenly bloom into bouncy, thick locks of short curls. For more contrast, the curls are worked into a soft afro, crowding up around the head.
