Formal updo hairstyle for African American women

This modern take on the pouf results in a stylish updo suitable for formal events. Long, black African-American hair is ironed straight, for a neat outline when all the hair has been put up. A horizontal section divides hair into two parts. The bottom portion is pulled back and twisted into a long bun, pinned up along the back of the head. The upper portion is worked up into a pouf, with the requisite height, but less than the usual volume. Ends are tucked under just where the vertical bun starts.
