The Ultimate Perfume Test

Every scent I’ve had the pleasure and in some cases, displeasure of sampling has to pass a few of my personal tests before they make it into my perfume collection. Question number 1: upon first sniff, does it smell good? Number 2: is it too strong? Number 3: is it flattering on my skin? Number 4: do others enjoy it on me just as much? And finally: do I love it enough to wear it often if I bought it and regret it if I didn’t? The most recent perfume put on trial is none other than the new HIDDEN fantasy BRITNEY SPEARS™. It’s nice to read the fancy schmancy words about how intriguing this perfume is, how it’s about expressing the many mysterious sides of me, how this fragrance knows no bounds, accepts no limits and creates an aura of anticipation…but at the end of the day, it’s the scent that sells itself. So the biggest question is, did it pass my test?

In a few words, I liked it.

Did I love it? Well….I really really liked it. The perfume is fresh; it’s sweet. Its inspiration’s been said to come from Britney’s love for white florals, vanilla and luscious desserts but I would have loved to smell more vanilla as I’m a HUGE vanilla fan. It smelt a bit citrusy but not too much; just enough to have someone question what you’re wearing. Upon first sniff, it was ok but on my skin, much nicer. It wasn’t as strong as I’d have thought from the initial bottle aroma-the key is to leave it on your skin for 30 minutes to see how it sets. 30 minutes later, it was still smellable and not too strong. So far so good. I received questions about what it was and compliments throughout the day; that was a good thing as I wasn’t too sure how it would be received. If I bought it, would I wear it often? Perhaps to a summer daytime friendly gathering, out shopping with some friends or for an early evening dinner- I smell it and think playful more than sexy so I’m not sure I could adopt a seductive feeling by wearing this on a hot date at night. I might not regret it if I didn’t buy it unless of course all those things they say about it are true, and in that case, who wouldn’t want a perfume that expresses the many mysterious sides of me, knows no bounds, accepts no limits and creates an aura of anticipation?
