THE RESULTS OF YET ANOTHER HAIR STRAIGHTENING ATTEMPT

If you’re anything like me and choose to read the reviews on a product before you buy it you might run into some ill said comments preventing you from buying the worst or perhaps even best product of your life. The only way to truly find out how something fares for you is to try it on yourself for yourself.

I’m guessing you’re reading this blog because you’re interested in the topic of beauty; if so CHI is one name you must have heard at least a thousand times. Because I’m a curly girl, I’ve often heard of it pertaining to their ever famous Original CHI Flat Iron ($175.97 and can be bought at any professional salon / JC Penney, Regis, ULTA ...) The CHI Hair Iron has a 10 foot cord and a swivel at the base which makes it much easier to maneuver. It also has ceramic heating plates which compared to older copper coil models surpass it by a milestone. I love the slimmer size of the plates because it forces you to take up smaller pieces and pay attention to your hair bit by bit...yes the process might take slightly longer but your hair will be much straighter because you'll actually grab everything. When I used to use the thicker varieties, I’d have tons of semi wet hair remaining after I’d thought I straightened everything because I’d taken up too much all at once. I wasn’t sure how this experience would differ but was sure ready to find out. Having had some poor experiences in my past when self straightening my hair, I’d pretty much decided to live with my curls unless I had them professionally done at a salon but who really wants to spend 50 dollars on a style that will come out at the slightest sign of humidity or drop of rain. So I did it. I took it upon myself yet again to straighten my own hair with the help of a friend.

Before I did any of this, I used a heat protecting spray in fear of frying my locks. When the job was done, either I’d never done it correctly before or my friend and I as a team were hairstylists in a past life but my hair looked ridiculously fabulous. I’m sorry I didn’t snap a picture in that moment to show you. I think what also helped was the BIOSILK SILK THERAPY ($24.50/ 5 oz) I put in my hair AFTER I straightened it- not too much however as even the slightest amount of anything ‘wet’ makes my hair curl up again.

This eliminated the frizz which I tend to have a lot of. As much as you might want to, it makes no sense to straighten your hair every day, even if you’re a swimmer who gets her hair wet regularly. Shampooing your hair on a daily basis isn’t recommended because it dries out the natural oils, so you can only imagine what’s being done to your locks when you literally suck out all water and oils. Can somebody say major damage if used all the time! I don’t have a problem however, using it frequently and in fact will do so because it was gorgeous – I simply won’t wash my straight out for about 3 days. The BIOSILK SILK THERAPY was really spectacular in terms of making hair smooth but it does have alcohol so I’m personally not a fan of using it before I straighten my hair. The combination of the two products delivered fantastic results.
