Every year, only the ‘best’ beauty industry contestants gather to compete for the title of the much desired Contessa award, and within the 24 categories, 137 Canadian salon professionals were ready to present the goods at this years 21st annual Contessas. Some may say the competition was tight but in the end, CHAD TAYLOR of Moods Hair Salon in Vancouver came out on top with the award for CANADIAN HAIRSTYLIST OF THE YEAR as well as BRITISH COLUMBIA HAIRSTYLIST OF THE YEAR. Gorgeous hues of yellow, vivacious orange and deep succulent red were presented in BC’s own Michelle Ateb of Milica SalonSpa in Langley. Michelle deservedly went home with 2 awards; MASTER COLOURIST OF THE YEAR and MAKEOVER COLOURIST OF THE YEAR. The shades are the perfect reflection of autumn leaves at their first turn of vibrant colour.

Quebec, specifically Montreal, is known as the city of fashion. It is no surprise Alain Pereque of Salon Pure wan the award for QUEBEC HAIRSTYLIST OF THE YEAR; unlike many stylists where they simply deliver nice hairstyles, there always seems to be a beautiful story in each of his hair designs. Where some of the toughest competition arises due to the city’s elevated interest in chic couture and the hottest trends, Alain succeeded in delivering the whole package- incredibly unique hairstyles and fashion to match.
