Over here at HairStylesDesign we’re absolutely quaking with excitement for New York Fashion Week. With the new Autumn/Winter collections just around the corner, we are so excited to see what’s in store for next season. We saw amazing grey hair in Madrid so now we’re all wondering what we will uncover this week! Bringing in the best fashion designers from all around NYFW should have some brand new and intriguing fashion forward ideas for us all to play with!

Every now and then a young actress comes along who manages to captivate and inspire. Elizabeth Olsen is one of those hugely talented stars who is as poised as she is pretty. She has been garnering tremendous attention for her role in Martha Marcy May Marlene, and critics are already talking about award nods. Designers have been clamoring to dress her, but for the most part Olsen has been shying away from fashion's front row. Though she seems to take her craft far more seriously than she does her sartorial choices, Olsen still manages to look amazing.

Vera Wang is a girl after our own hearts. Yes, we love her regal, romantic, designs, but we were beyond smitten with the whimsical designer herself after we sheathed about her later lifestyle offering: Vera Wang Lovestruck. Turns out, she's just as easily enamoured as are - and you, perhaps….

Michael Kors. It’s a name that’s hard to forget. It’s a name that is permanently burned into your brain after your first glance at any of his work. Kors has evolved from a fashion designer to a direct fashion authority. With over 30 years designing and 7 seasons hosting the hit reality T.V. show “Project Runway” his new collection was one that was definitely a must-see at this years’ NYFW.

I was fortunate to witness one of the biggest fashion shows in the US; The Mercedes- Benz Fashion Week in New York. Energetic would’ve been one way of describing the atmosphere. Many people were anxious to see the upcoming collections from some of the top designers in the world. Once the red carpet rolled out, numerous celebrities started pouring out to see the show. A-list artists like Beyonce and Nicki Minaj, socialites like the Kardashian sisters and actors Gerard Butler and Michael Douglas all stepped out to witness, front row, this spectacular show.

If its one designer that I had to be partial, well more like biased to at Fashion Week, would no doubt be Betsey Johnson. If its not her quirkiness and eccentric style herself, her signature hot pink lips and lightning bolts, disco ball colors and of course, her famous runway cartwheels and dancing, then I don’t know WHAT is!

What a way to start off the Festival of Fashion Design! With local designers showcasing their talents, you were kept wanting more. As the day progressed all eyes were on the Jean Paul Gauthier show, I couldn’t have asked for more. With the style ranging from nautical influences to the 60’s he kept the audience asking what’s next. With James bond music playing at the intro of the show you were already for the adventure. He started the show with looks straight out the original James bond movie, keeping it classy and original. After that we moved on to tribal looks ranging from native influences to Tibetan tribes. As the show progressed we saw everything from Avant Garde Cirque de Soleil to Sophisticated business women of today. The show was presented as the finale for the first day of the festival, and what a Finale it was. With like a virgin playing as the last look came down the runway we could only hope that it wasn’t end. Throughout the show I realized that there were women’s wear influences for the men’s wear which I thought to be quite sophisticated since it’s usually the women’s wear that has the influences of men’s wear. Basking in the energy of the show afterwards was an experience in itself, mingling among the fashion heads like myself kept me intrigued for what day was going bring! All in all Jean Paul Gauthier showed us why he is considered a great! Stay tuned for post on Day 2 of the Festival of Fashion Design!

With shades no longer being used solely for the purpose of protecting your eyes from the sun, it’s time to find a pair that will compliment your wardrobe, your face shape and your life style. Some people assume that if you’re going to buy shades that you will have to spend an obscene amount on designer shades. While designer shades are a treat, if they’re not in your price range than you can definitely find quality shades at other retailers that won’t break the bank. Or if you’re someone that likes to own enough shades to complement each outfit (like myself) than I have the answer to having a stylish summer in the shade!

Every summer the same debate comes out to play. How short is too short for shorts??? Well after doing some research on the famous denim cut off shorts I’ve drawn to the conclusion that it’s not so much a question of what is too short for summer shorts, there’s a lot more behind it than that. Like what body type do you have? What kind of shoes are you pairing with these shorts? What kind of top are you wearing? Where are you going? Etc… After evaluating all these aspects then you may come to a conclusion of what is too short for you and the occasion.

Every season there are a slew of new styles of shoes higher than the last. The question we all ask is how high can I go? Well below I’ve compiled a list of the highest of the high and the lowest of the lows. Take your pick and enjoy this season in style no matter how high you get!!!
