In three simple questions you’ll find out if you’re someone who just cares too much about what people think. Isn’t it time to listen to what YOU want?
1) You’re out shopping with some friends when they see a funky looking blazer and matching pant set. Had you been alone you’d have laughed secretly to yourself but after stating that your taste in clothes is drab, they insist you get it to spice up your wardrobe. You know you’ll never be caught dead in this atrocity so you:
a) Decide the store should pay you to wear it and put it right back where it belongs, on the rack.
b) Have a few laughs about it but begin to seriously wonder if the purple checkered pant suit might do your closet some justice.
c) Convince yourself that purple isn’t such a bad color and checkers aren’t such a bad pattern. The two together can’t be wrong, right? You nab it before anyone else has a chance.
2)The latest haircut suits everyone with a round face but yours is a prominent square. According to your internet research on face shapes, this hairstyle would NEVER ever in a gazillion years match yours. You:
a) Get the hairstyle anyway, screw the internet. Screw round faces!!
b) Realize that it’s not so much your face shape that can’t pull off the look but your lack of confidence wearing it. You’ll just stick out your long hair until you get bored enough of it and then just tie it back.
c) Believe that 2 million web pages can’t be wrong. There is no way you’re wearing a round face hairstyle on your big square head. Surely there must be some other sexy styles to suit your face!!
3) You’re at the party of the year for a grand total of 20 minutes when a glass of red wine is spilt all over your white dress. You can’t possibly find the words to describe your frustration and your friends trying to make light of it, start dragging you into the center of the dance floor as your favorite song plays. Inside you feel the urge to wiggle your booty but as you look around and catch a glimpse of your reflection, you:
a) Drop down and get your eagle on gurl. Wine schwine! Not much you can do to remove the stain in this moment, might as well make the best of it and party on.
b) Casually dance your way to the washroom to attempt stain removal yourself. You’re not coming out until the deep red is down to a light pink.
c) Rush homebound to your car with a sweater around your stain. You can’t believe that beef head had the nerve to do the Macarena with a full glass of wine in her hand!!
RESULTS
If you have two or more A’s: You know what you want and have a firm grasp of what works in your life and what doesn’t. You care what people think to a certain extent and the moment you realize your pleasing them will cause you discomfort, the voice in your head kick in full gear “do what you want!!” You have a healthy balance of having fun but sometimes it’s ok to bend a little and give in a tad. This doesn’t mean at your own expense of happiness but would it really hurt you to wear the shirt your boyfriend bought you for his birthday dinner even if the color doesn’t suit your complexion? Learn to be a good judge about when to flex or stay firm. Either way, you’ll know when you put your foot down you’re speaking your mind and when you don’t you’re choosing not to. You’ll always be in control that way!
If you have two or more B’s: To do something you know is not you is one thing but if you can’t decide if it’s you or not, that’s just sad! Are you in or out? Are you here or there? Are you this or that…decide already!! The good news? You have an opinion. The bad news? It isn’t yours! If you don’t want to wear strappy sandals because you hate your feet with a passion but strappy sandals are all the rage, guess what?? Don’t wear strappy sandals. Conforming to society just to fit in is never a good thing in the fashion world because it doesn’t represent who you are. Wearing something just as adorable and flattering will be far hotter because you’ll be much more comfortable in it. What better way to shine than to be dressed in head to toe, you.
If you have 2 or more C’s: Know what you want yet? Sure you do, you always did though you might not express yourself properly about it sometimes and therefore people and situations win over. You little people pleaser you!! You know you don’t like certain things. You know you won’t like certain results. You know you know you know - you just don’t do! Time to change that in 2009 and come correct with a new attitude. If you’re afraid to speak up sometimes or find you live your life in fear of what people will think or won’t think of you, you might as well have strings on your body and everyone in the world pulling them. So now you know what you are, here’s what you can do about it! Decide, yes, make a decision to do what makes you uncomfortable, but in a good way. That means, if it makes you uncomfortable to NOT do what someone else wants you to do, do it anyway!! As uncomfortable as you might feel to displease people, it sure beats displeasing yourself. Start in baby steps if you can’t take the full haul and politely displease one person a day. Before you know it, you’ll have an opinion, you’ll have a say in your life and you’ll have one heck of a good time living freely!
